TM2500, TM2700 Data Entry Terminals

cheap operator interface terminal (but rugged!)

TM2500, TM2700 Operator Interface Terminals

Description

The TM2500 / TM2700 terminals are low cost, compact, industrial data entry and display terminals. They are ideal for simple keyboard entry. The TM2500 and TM2700 are similar units, differing only in communications interface RS232C on the TM2500 and RS422 on the TM2700. Both terminals are lightweight, 10.5 ounces, and are enclosed within a 7.102"W X 4.102"H X 1.060"D case. The terminals have six backlit programmable function keys. Space is provided to customize the keyboard and function keys with company logos and function labels. The compact size of the TM2500/2700 makes them ideal for applications where space is at a premium. The TM2700 is recommended for electrically noisy environments, multidrop applications, and where communication distances of more than 50 feet are required. Fifteen command sequences are used by the host to control these terminals. Intelligent Instrumentation's products are backed by over 30 years of experience providing solutions to industry through state-of-the-art technology. This experience has ensured that the design of the TM2500/2700 is focused on the needs of customers.

Keyboard

A numeric keypad with six programmable function keys is provided for operator input. The keys are widely spaced for ease of entry. The silicon rubber keyboard provides environmental sealing with good tactile feedback. A unique characteristic of the keyboard is that each function key is backlit. The backlighting is under host computer control to give maximum flexibility to the operator. The keyboard also features key-click and key-repeat functions. If an invalid key is pressed, the terminal responds with an audible tone.

Display

The display is a 16-character LCD with large, easy to read characters. An 80-character display buffer with scroll keys allows the operator to slide the 16-character window across the 80-character line. The high contrast display on the terminals provides sufficient alphanumeric display capability for most panel-mount applications. #

Case

The case for the TM2500/2700 is designed for either surface or recessed mounting. The keyboard and display are sealed in the ABS plastic case that when properly mounted, protects the terminal against dust and moisture.

Operation Mode

Three modes are available. The modes are as follows:

  • Setup mode allows the maintenance personnel to establish the terminal operating parameters interactively from the keyboard. Prompts guide the operator through the selection of baud rate, protocol, and other parameters.
  • Character mode operation is similar to that of a standard CRT. In this mode all entered characters are immediately sent to the host computer; the user selects whether the characters are displayed locally before transmission. The host computer has full control of screen format and of the location of the visible display window. The window and cursor can be scrolled in four directions using relative cursor positioning characters.
  • In Block mode, terminated blocks of data are transmitted and received by the terminal, allowing operators to compose and correct messages before sending them to the host system.

Standard Commands

The standard commands are as follows:

  • p - Poll terminal for output
  • r - Retransmit last data
  • e - Echo output buffer
  • o - Clear output buffer
  • t - Set turnaround delay
  • k - Set keyboard parameters
  • m - Define function message
  • h - Control function key backlights
  • d - Set display characteristics
  • f - Set display format
  • i - Insert function message in output stream
  • b - Backup parameters in nonvolatile EEPROM
  • c - Configuration request

Command Set

The programmer is given a powerful set of command or Escape sequences with which to control terminal operation. With the exception of communication-related functions, options selected from the keyboard in Setup mode may also be changed by the host computer. All commands supported by Intelligent Instrumentation's on-line terminals are supported by the TM2500/2700.
